Purple and gold end regular season with seventh-place finish at Brickyard Collegiate

MACON, Ga. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team finished off the regular-season portion of its schedule Tuesday afternoon, completing the third and final round of action at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga.

The purple and gold wrapped up play seventh among the eight teams competing at Brickyard Golf Club, posting a 333 to end the two-day event with a 975. Host Mercer cruised to a 19-stroke victory behind an 885, backed by a 287 on Tuesday. The Bears' Carol Pyon took home individual medalist honors behind a 220.

Leading the Golden Eagles was Ainsley Simms, tying for 22nd among 47 golfers with a 233. The junior notched one birdie during her final-round score of 78. Next for the Tech crew was senior Elisabeth Toennessen, placing 36th behind a 244. Three birdies powered her third round of 79.

Tying for 39th were teammates Kaydi Rhodes and Katrine Toennessen, each with final scores of 249. A senior like her twin sister, Toennessen put forth an 85 on the day while the rookie Rhodes capped off the week with a 91 and one more birdie.

Rounding out the Tech lineup, senior Gittle Sciolis finished 45th with a 263 and final round of 93.

A trio of Golden Eagles competed as individuals, led by Makenzie Morton. The senior tallied an 85 with a birdie for a 252 to finish 41st. Freshman Sydney Branson delivered a 79 on Tuesday thanks to a pair of birdies, finishing 42nd with a 253. Sophomore Reagan Stuke ranked 43rd following an 84 in the third round and 255 overall.

Tech will now focus on the Ohio Valley Championships, set to kick off on Sunday, Apr. 16 and run through Tuesday, Apr. 18 in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The league's annual postseason event will take place on the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
