Softball Summer Mini-Camp at Tech set to begin on Friday, Aug. 7

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The time has come for the Tennessee Tech Championship Softball Summer Mini-Camp, set to take place over the weekend at Tech softball field. The camp will last from Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9 and is designed to offer instruction, practice time and evaluation in all areas of the game.

Registration on Friday will begin at 3:30 CT, before the camp starts at 4 p.m. on the field. Friday's focus will be centered on pitching and catching fundamentals. Saturday and Sunday's registration is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CT, before the camp starts at 9 a.m. on the field for both days.

The camp, which is being directed by TTU head softball coach Bonnie Bynum, will also feature Kennesaw head coach (and former Tech head coach) Tory Acheson, plus assistant and head coaches from several other schools as well as members of the Golden Eagle softball team.

It will feature small group instruction as the campers move through the instructional stations as part of a team of campers of similar age and skill levels. The team of experienced instructors adjust the level of instruction to each group of players.

There are some fun activities but Championship Softball is geared towards players who are looking to improve their skills by working with the best instructors available. Hitting is an area of emphasis with time spent each day on instruction, trouble shooting and practice time. Drills to improve mechanics and bat speed are included to allow players to take new ideas home with them to allow them to continue to improve long after they leave the camp. Time is invested in creating a well-rounded athlete with instruction offered in strength, conditioning and sprint training. The mental game is introduced with a session on using goal setting, imagery and routines to improve play.

Defensive skills will be stressed with several sessions on fundamentals and skills specific to the position each camper plays. Pitching, catching, infield and outfield skills are all covered in sessions designed to give each player an opportunity to work on the position they play.

Please call head coach Bonnie Bynum (office number 931-372-6552) if you have additional questions.
