Two Golden Eagles ranked in top-10 after first round at OVC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed the first round of action at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on the Fighting Joe course at The Shoals Sunday late afternoon, ranking seventh among the 11 teams in competition.

The Golden Eagles finished the first day with a 4-over 292 , ranking just five shots out of sixth place and less than 20 back of the leader, Belmont.

Cookeville native Will Brooks paced the purple and gold through the first 18 holes of play, tallying four birdies and 13 pars on his way to a 3-under 69. His performance tied him for eighth individually among the 55 participants.

Just one shot behind his teammates showing was Matthew Giles, who collected a 2-under 70 to tie for 10th place. The senior captured three birdies and 14 pars as part of his first round scoring.

Sophomore Bracton Womack ranked next among the Tech participants, tying for 35th. He posted a 3-over 75 with a pair of birdies. Tying for 44th was junior Cameron Yeary, who turned in a 78.

Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup was freshman Bryce Beeler. He carded a 79 to tie for 48th place while turning in two birdies.

The Tech squad will kick off round two of action Monday morning, with the Golden Eagle tee times starting at 8:50 a.m. CT.
