Communiversity Night a strong link between town and Golden Eagles

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech football coach Watson Brown (right) and Director of Athletics Mark Wilson (below) addressed the gathering Tuesday morning at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce Business Before Hours, and told the group about preparations for the 2014 football season incuding several season ticket options and details about Thursday's Communiversity Night.

The largest applause of the morning came when Wilson reported that Brown had signed a contract extension to keep the veteran coach at the Golden Eagle helm through the 2019 season.

Brown and WIlson each took the opportunity to ask for the support of the community. Included in the information were a couple of special deals.

The season-opening game Thursday night is Communiversity Night, and every business in the Chamber is offered eight free tickets to the contest against Kentucky Christian University. Several business persons picked up their packet of free tickets for the game during the morning session.

Wilson also told about the "Back The Golden Eagles" season ticket plan, which has become the most popular season ticket plan in the past 10 years. The plan is ideal for businesses who can use the tickets for employees, clients, or families. The plan includes 10 tickets to each of Tech's six home games (60 total tickets) for $200. It's also perfect for booster groups or large families.

"That works out to $3.33 per ticket," Wilson said.

He also detailed the "Family Plan" which includes five tickets (up to two adults) for each of the six home games for a total cost of $75, which breaks down to $2.50 per person per game.

Brown talked about the team, the coaching staff, the schedule and the TSSAA Blue Cross Bowl, and how important that championship event has been for the Golden Eagle football progeram.

"I looked at our roster, and it's amazing how many of our kids played in the championship game right here in Cookeville. It's a good indication of how important those games are to Tennessee Tech football, in addition to the community."

He also talked about how well his staff has recruited the state of Tennessee.

"If you look down our depth chart, many of our skill kids are from right here in Tennessee," he said. "We continue to recruit out-of-state, but we begin right here within the state and it's working. We have so many of our key players from schools across the state of Tennessee."
