Joyner adds recruiting coordinator to her title as assistant volleyball coach

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech volleyball assistant coach Cassandra Joyner has added recruiting coordinator to her title, reflecting the role she has played in building the Golden Eagle program under head coach Dave Zelenock the past two years.

"We're adding the title of 'recruiting coordinator' because we wanted to publicly acknowledge the amount of work she puts into our recruiting efforts," Zelenock said. "Last year's recruiting class was nationally ranked, and we expect this year's to be, as well."

Joyner's recruiting and coaching efforts the past two years aided in Tech reaching the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in 2014. She has hit the recruiting trail the past two years, and continues to search for promising talent to bolster the Golden Eagle roster.

"The recruiting process never ends," Zelenock said. "It's just a matter of which class we're working on. We've finished the 2016 class, and we're starting on the 2017 class."

A former Delaware State standout and LaSalle assistant coach, Joyner was added to the Golden Eagle volleyball coaching staff in May of 2013.

"CJ is a passionate, hard-working person and we are extremely lucky to add her to our staff," Zelenock said at the time of naming her. "She played for me seven or eight years ago, and I thought she would turn into a coach. As a player she was a leader, spoke up in the huddle, and made her strategies known to me, which is a quality I always respected."

While at LaSalle, Joyner earned her Masters in Administration of Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security.

Joyner, a 2010 graduate of Delaware State with a major in Psychology, became the school's first player to reach 1,000 kills and ended her career with 1,272 kills to go along with 888 career digs and 310 career blocks.

Prior to Tech, Joyner was an assistant volleyball coach at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pa. A member of the staff for three seasons, Joyner helped the Explorers improve each year in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

A four-year letterwinner and team captain, Joyner led the DSU Lady Hornets in kills, blocks and digs in both 2008 and 2009. A two-time All-MEAC first team selection, Joyner finished third in the MEAC in points (4.13 pg), fourth in kills (3.32 pg) and sixth in hitting percentage (.283) during her final season with the Hornets.

Joyner was also featured in COBRA magazine, and was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her stint at Delaware State. During her collegiate career, she also coached the Delaware Juniors 17-18s club volleyball team in Dover, and served as camp counselor/assistant coach for several summer volleyball camps.
