RICHMOND, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech women's tennis team couldn't slow down the league-leading Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels, who topped the Golden Eagles 5-2 Sunday to win their third match in three days and remain unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference at 5-0.
Tech got a win in doubles play at the No. 3 spot, but fell behind in the match 1-0 when EKU captured the top two doubles contests. Laura Porras and Diana Woodcock teamed up to post an 8-6 victory over Catarina Branco and Myriem Mhirit.
Tech's No. 1 doubles tandem of Victoria Cran and Frederike Kahl fell, 8-3, to Anoul Faure and Anais Hamel. At the No. 2 spot, Katie Barnhill and Leydi Zora lost by the same 8-3 margin to Jessica Albuquerque and Alyze Pagal.
The Golden Eagles posted an impressive straight set victory by Zora at No. 1 singles, topping Mhirit, 6-4, 7-5.
But the Lady Colonels notched straight set wins at four of the remaining five singles positions to capture the match.
Tech's other point came in a 6-2, 6-2 win by Cran when she downed Pagal at No. 4.
The Golden Eagles (1-8/1-4 OVC) will play at UT Martin Tuesday at 1 p.m. in an OVC match, then visit the University of Memphis Wednesday for a non-conference match at 11 a.m.
