COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech freshman Victoria Cran
captured a hard-earned victory at No. 5 singles, preventing a sweep
by Chattanooga in women’s tennis action Thursday as the Lady
Mocs took home a 6-1 non-conference victory over the Golden
Eagles.
Cran outlasted Annie Green for Tech’s lone point of the
afternoon, winning 7-6, 6-3 as the final point came nearly four
hours after action had begun. It was the first match on their
homecourt for the Golden Eagles (0-5), who will host Austin Peay on
Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference contest, along with the Tech
men’s team. Those matched begin at 1
p.m.
UTC earned the doubles point, claiming all three doubles contests for a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, all five of the Mocs’ wins came in straight sets as Chattanooga improved to 4-8 in dual matches this season. Golden Eagle freshman Frederike Kahl put up a battle at No. 4 before falling to Charlotte Bossy, 6-2, 7-6.
