Golden Eagles travel to Appalachian State Saturday, host Samford Sunday

BOONE, N.C. – After three weeks of tournaments, the Tennessee Tech softball team takes a quick break from the tournament schedule with a short jaunt over to Appalachian State for two games on Saturday, then return home on Sunday for the rescheduled games against Samford for the Golden Eagles' home opener.

The game times on Saturday against the Mountaineers are 12 and 2 p.m., while the times at home against the Bulldogs are 2 and 4 p.m.

The Mountaineers enter the weekend series with a 4-10 record, going 2-3 at the UNCG Invitational with two losses to Virginia, a defeat to host UNCG and a split against Seton Hall.

Keri White leads the team in batting with a .400 average, while Megan Walker and Haley Stewart each have a team-high seven RBI.

In the circle, Katie Williford has a 2-0 record with a 2.45 earned run average, coming on in relief in eight games. ASU's top starter, Kenzie Longanecker, has started seven games and has posted a 1-6 record with a 3.20 ERA. Teams are hitting .271 against her.

Samford has a 2-13 record, losing five of its last six. The Bulldogs' two wins have come to Evansville and Indiana.

Hannah Trombley has the top batting average for the Bulldogs, posting a .300 clip. Madison Couch has a team-high eight RBI.

Samford's top hurler, McKenna Gillespie, has posted a 4.29 ERA with an 0-5 record. Annalyn Yantis (5.07, 1-3) and Taylor DeCelles (7.36, 1-4) has collected the two wins in the circle.

The Golden Eagles (3-11) collected a win on Sunday against Troy to wrap up the Trojan Classic. Raegan Sparks leads Tech in hitting with a .371 average and a team-high three home runs. Bayli Cruse leads the team with 12 RBI.

In the circle, Taylor Waldrop (2-4, 5.91 ERA) has two of Tech's three wins, with opponents hitting .293 against her. She has walked 23 and struck out 30.
