MARTIN, Tenn. – UT Martin scored nine runs through the first four innings on Sunday as the Tennessee Tech softball team attempted to rally back in both ends of the doubleheader against the Skyhawks.

Tech (9-21, 0-4 Ohio Valley Conference) lost 9-4 in the opener, then dropped a 3-2 decision in the closer.

Sydney Love-Baker drove in three of Tech's four runs in the first game as she played Beth McCulley in the fifth on a single up the middle, then drove in McCulley and Alyssa Herlocker on a two-run single to left center.

Jessie Lowery had the other run-scoring hit in the contest, driving in Gabby LaSala on a single through the left side.

Leigh Ellen Thomas took the loss, allowing nine runs – seven earned – on 14 hits as she walked three and struck out one.

In game two, trailing 3-0 in the sixth, Tech chipped away as LaSala drove in McCulley on a sacrifice fly to right field, then, in the seventh, Taylor Thomas hit a solo shot to straight-away center. Tech was able to get a single from Callen Griffin, but her pinch runner, Hannah Richter, was caught at second on a fielder's choice. McCulley picked up a single through the left side to put runners on first and second, but the Skyhawks were able to close out the game with a grounder to first.

Kayla Hughes took the loss in game two, yielding three runs on four hits, walking three and striking out one.

Tech returns to action on Friday as it travels to Austin Peay for an Easter weekend doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
