Softball back in win column after a commanding performance over Providence

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tennessee Tech softball squad collected its third win of the weekend Sunday against Providence College at the USF Under Armour Showcase. In commanding fashion, every Golden Eagle player who made a plate appearance reached base safely, with every starter connecting for a hit in the 11-4 victory.

Senior leadoff hitter Melody Christian went 3-for-5, recording two RBI.  Freshmen Madison Taylor and Cortney Fry also had big games for the second day in a row, each recording two hits with Taylor driving home four runs.

Taylor Ketchum (7-3) pitched a complete game, striking out three batters. She gave up four runs, including one home run, to notch her seventh win of the season.

Both teams went scoreless for the first two innings, but Tech was the first to light up the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the second inning off of Taylor's double. After going scoreless in the fourth, Tech scored runs in every inning for the remainder of the contest. Tech's big inning came in the sixth when the Golden Eagles scored seven runs, rotating through the entire batting order to take a 10-4 lead.

Tech scored again in the seventh as Angi Sakamoto singled to the right side, sending Chelsea Burgess home with the final run.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their southern road trip Tuesday at Florida A&M in a single game at 3 p.m., and Wednesday with a twinbill at Thomas College starting at 2 p.m.
