TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tennessee Tech softball underclassmen powered the Golden Eagles to a 9-3 win over Long Island University Brooklyn Saturday in the USF Under Armour Showcase. In Tech's nightcap, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the sixth inning an a comeback effort against Temple, but ultimately fell to the Owls, 7-5.
Freshman Madison Taylor and sophomore Hannah Eldridge blasted back-to-back home runs en route to a dominating victory over the Blackbirds. Sophomore Angie Sakamoto placed an extra base hit of her own, driving in two runs while sparking a seven-run streak in the sixth inning for the Golden Eagles.
Taylor Ketchum (6-3) pitched a complete game, notching two strikeouts and giving up four hits.
In Tech's nightcap, the Golden Eagles fell to Temple University, 7-5 despite making a three-run comeback effort in the sixth inning.
It was an eventful first inning as both teams scored a combined five runs, with the Owls taking a 3-2 edge. In the fifth, Temple scored three more before Tech scored three runs of its own in the sixth to come within one at 6-5.
The Purple and Gold closeout the Showcase against Providence at 8 a.m. CT Sunday morning.
