COOKEVILLE Tenn. -- Community service has always been a staple of Tennessee Tech athletics, and this week the Golden Eagle softball team took time out of its fall schedule to help support Habitat for Humanity. Coach Tory Acheson and his team spent several hours working on the 2011 Women's Build home, being built just south of Cookeville.

For many of them, it was the first time they had ever driven a nail, for all of them, it was a moving experience. 

"Knowing that someone who doesn't have a home is going to be living in a home because of what we're doing is just really a proud moment for all of us," junior Claudia Harke said.

The Golden Eagles helped finish the structure's roof and prepped the house for siding. 

"It gives [the players] the chance to give a little something back to the community," coach Tory Acheson said. "It's a great team building experience because they get to do some different kinds of things that they're not used to doing every day."

At the end of their work, each player was invited to inscribe their own personal blessing on the interior walls of the home, as seen in the video below.
