COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The 2012 Tennessee Tech softball season may be winding down, but the competition is as stiff as ever as the Golden Eagles face the Bulldogs of Mississippi State in a Saturday twinbill. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. in Starkville.

The Bulldogs (30-19) are riding a nine-game winning streak and have won their last five home contests. Led by slugger Jessica Cooley, MSU as won 11 straight games against non-conference opponents. Cooley is batting .329 on the season with 15 home runs and is seeking her 40th RBI of the year.

The Golden Eagles (22-26) are looking for their first road win in nearly a month, but have only played three in that stretch. Tech is led by ace pitcher Holly Thomas, who is looking for her 30th appearance of the season. Her 19 complete games and 137 strikeouts leads the team and ranks among the best in the Ohio Valley Conference. Thomas has an ERA of just 1.98, racking up 15 wins and three shutouts.

Tech will remain on the road next weekend, with a three-game series at Morehead State. That series will determine what seed the Golden Eagles may get in the OVC Championship Tournament May 10-12.
