Golden Eagles unable to contain Chattanooga offense

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech softball team was unable to contain the explosive offense of Chattanooga on Tuesday, falling to the Lady Mocs 8-0.

The six-inning game marks just the second time the Golden Eagles (15-22) have been run-ruled this season, with the first time coming at Florida State (2/11).

All of Chattanooga's eight runs in the game were scored with two outs as freshman pitcher Taylor Ketchum took the loss. She struck out three Lady Mocs while allowing seven hits and three earned runs in her four innings of work.

The Lady Mocs (24-13) struck early, scoring three runs on three hits in the first inning. After loading the bases with a single, double and hit batter, UTC's Jessica Traxler doubled to right center to clear the bases.

In the fourth, Chattanooga tacked on another run on a double and a Tech error to increase its lead to 4-0.

Tech managed to put two on in the top of the fifth off an infield single by Samantha Everett and a walk by Melody Christian. Both runners were stranded, however, as UTC pitcher Taylor Deason forced a popup to get out of the jam.

Chattanooga rallied for four more runs in the sixth to end the game early. After a walk and a single, the Lady Mocs hit a pair of doubles and forced a pair of Tech errors to end the scoring at 8-0.

Michelle Fuzzard earned the win for Chattanooga, pitching the first four innings allowing just two hits.

The Golden Eagles are scheduled to host Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader Thursday with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
