COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Holly Thomas shut down second place Morehead State over the weekend and earned her first career OVC Pitcher of the Week honor as a result on Monday.

A sophomore from Ooltewah, Tenn., Thomas bounced back from a shortened outing against No. 17 Tennessee to record victories in each of her next three appearances while allowing just one earned run.

On Sunday, Thomas won both ends of a doubleheader against Morehead State. In game one, she held the Eagles to four hits and one run as she went the distance, striking out six. In game two, Thomas was even more dominant as she did not allow an earned run and struck out seven batters in 4 2/3 innings of relief to pick up her second win of the day.

Thomas averaged more than a strikeout per inning for the week as she fanned 17 hitters in 16 innings of work.

For the season, Thomas has a 12-12 record and 3.20 earned run average with 113 strikeouts in 131 1/3 innings in the circle. She has a team-high nine complete games and three shutouts to her credit while holding opponents to a .241 batting average.
