NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee State was able to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to top the Tennessee Tech softball team on Sunday by a score of 4-3.

Tech (18-25,7-10 OVC) struck first in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a Chanelle Spalding walk. After a TSU error that moved Spalding to third, junior Callie Schmidt singled to right field, getting her fourth RBI of the three-game series and putting the Golden Eagles up 1-0.

Junior Lacie Coquerille led off the fifth with with a double to left and was driven in on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Brooke Basten, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Tigers (11-27,6-11 OVC) closed the gap to one in the bottom of the frame with a lead-off single followed by a double, scoring Kara Murr from first.

Freshman Samantha Everett hit her first career home run with one out in the seventh, providing Tech with a two-run lead.

After Murr walked to open the bottom of the seventh, a pair of singles and a double allowed three runs to cross the plate for the Tigers, ending the game with a final of 4-3.

Sophomore Whitney Cummings took the loss for Tech after coming in in relief of junior Maddie Schmissrauter. Cummings allowed three runs on four hits in her 1.1 innings of work, dropping her record to 0-2.

Schmissrauter pitched the opening five innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five.

Hannah Schnebly, 6-6, earned the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings for the Tigers.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday when the host Tennessee in a single game at 5 p.m. Admission at the Tech Softball Field is free.
