COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech rifle team had its
best competition of the season when it shot against Morehead State
on Sunday, posting a team score of 4,511 against the Eagles, who
scored 4,515.
“We shot very well this weekend,” TTU rifle coach Steve
Law said. “It’s a season high so far and we were much
more consistent. It’s a good sign the team is coming
together.”
Tech finished with a team score of 2,223 in the smallbore
competition and 2,288 in the air rifle event. Morehead State shot
2,251 in the smallbore and 2,264 in air rifle, and Morehead State
Blue shot 2,155 in smallbore and 2,193 in the air rifle.
Austin Litherland broke the career-high that he set last week when
he shot 589 in air rifle. That score was the highest air score in
two years at Tech.
“If Austin Litherland continues his trend, he will stand a
good chance of qualifying for the NCAA Championships,” Law
said.
Also in the air rifle competition Chase Cortner shot 575, Curtis
Gagne shot 567 and Jessica McCauley shot 557 for the Golden
Eagles.
In the smallbore competition Gagne led Tech with 564, followed by
Litherland at 554, Krystle Harris at 553 and Patrick Stidham at
552.
The Golden Eagles will compete again on Nov. 7 at Jacksonville
State.
