COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – True freshman wide receiver and kick returner Metrius Fleming won one Ohio Valley Conference newcomer of the week honor earlier this season with heroics against Samford.
Sunday, he added his second newcomer of the week title, as voted on by the league's sports information contacts.
Fleming ended Saturday's 31-14 win over Virginia-Wise with 161 all-purpose yards, including a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, one of 11 thus far this season on the Football Championship Subdivision level.
The Elberton, Ga., native also had three catches for 65 yards and three rushes for five yards.
Including his kick returns in the first two games of the season against Samford and FBS Miami (Ohio), Fleming is averaging 60.7 yards per return and ranks 23rd nationally in combined kick return yardage (182).
Tech returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Western Illinois.
