Tennessee Tech volleyball returns home to host OVC opponent Jacksonville State on Wednesday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—It's another quick turn around for the Tennessee Tech volleyball team (5-12, 1-3 OVC), as they get right back into action on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will host OVC opponent Jacksonville State (13-9, 3-1 OVC) in a 7 p.m. contest in the Hooper Eblen Center.

In Tech's last showing, the Golden Eagles fell to Belmont 3-1in Nashville. The Bruins took winning set scores of 25-14, 19-25, 25-13 and 25-15 in the match.

In the contest, sophomore Shaneice James and junior K'Vonna Johnson each tallied seven kills to lead Tech. James also ended the match with a .455 hitting percentage and one block for the Golden Eagles.

Jacksonville State went 1-1 this past weekend. First falling to Tennessee State 2-3 on Friday, before defeating Belmont 3-1 on Saturday. Allyson Zuhlke led JSU with 14 kills, three blocks, and a .220 hitting percentage versus TSU, and 11 kills, five blocks, and a .240 hitting percentage against Belmont.

Shealene Little continues to lead the Golden Eagles this season, tallying 146 kills and 143 digs.

James leads Tech in hitting percentage with a .331 mark on the year. James' .331 hitting percentage also ranks her second amongst OVC players.

For Jacksonville State, Zuhlke currently leads with 277 kills and 70 blocks on the year. Zuhlke's .320 hitting percentage puts her right behind James as third in the OVC.  Zuhlke's 3.41 kills and 4.06 points per set also ranks her fourth amongst OVC opponents.

Another key player on the Gamecock squad is Kaylee Frear. Frear is JSU's second lead attacker with 180 kills (2.17 per set) and a .217 hitting percentage on the season.

Mackenzie Rombach is also doing big things for the Gamecocks. Rombach leads Jacksonville State in blocks with 103 on the year. She has also tallied 127 kills (1.53 per set), 13 service aces, and a .171 hitting percentage on the season. 

Jacksonville State leads the series over Tech 17-9.

The Golden Eagles and Gamecocks last faced in the 2015 season, where the two teams split matches.

In their first meeting last year, Jacksonville State defeated Tech 3-1 with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 12-25, and 25-22.

Cody Dodd and Kellie Williams led the Golden Eagles, each with 14 kills. Dodd also tallied 18 digs in the match, while teammates Shaneice James tallied 12 kills and Sharon Anderson posted 46 assists and 16 digs.

Emily Rutherford led the Gamecocks with 18 kills and 15 digs in the match. Hannah Kirk posted 21 digs, while teammate Jennifer Hart tallied 42 assists and 10 digs.

As a team, Jacksonville State hit .163 to Tech's .155. The Golden Eagles tallied 51 assists to the Gamecock's 48, but gathered just 83 digs to JSU's 85.

In their second meeting of the 2015 season, Tech saw victory this time 3-1 over Jacksonville State, taking set scores of 25-21, 25-13, 20-25, and 25-17.

Dodd led the Golden Eagles with 23 kills and 13 digs, while Williams tallied 11 kills and Anderson posted 44 assists and nine digs.

Rutherford led the Gamecocks with 17 kills and 11 digs in the contest, while teammate Charis Ludtke tallied 14 kills and 12 digs. Hart posted 44 assists and 11 digs as well for JSU.

As a team, Tech hit .245 to Jacksonville State's .135. Each team tallied 48 assists in the match, however, the Golden Eagles put up 12.0 blocks to the Gamecock's 8.0.

Currently, the Golden Eagles stand as second in the OVC in digs with 17.31 per set. Tech also ranks eighth in assists (11.02 per set); 10th in kills (11.71), blocks (1.27 per set), and service aces (0.98 per set); and 11th in hitting percentage (.148).

The Gamecocks, as a team, are first in blocks (2.71 per set); second in hitting percentage (.209); seventh in kills (11.80 per set) and service aces (1.03 per set); ninth in assists (10.93 per set); and 10th in digs (13.70 per set) thus far this season.
