Golden Eagle volleyball travels to Jacksonville State Tuesday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech volleyball team (7-20, 3-11 OVC) gets right back into action on Tuesday, when the Golden Eagles travel to Jacksonville State (17-17, 5-9 OVC) for a 7 p.m. matchup in the Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Jacksonville State leads the series over Tech 18-9. 

In their first meeting this season, the Gamecocks defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets (3-1) with set scores of 25-23, 14-25, 25-20, and 25-15. 

K'Vonna Johnson led the Golden Eagles with 18 kills, while Sharon Anderson posted a double-double with 52 assists and 13 digs. Rachel Thomas also posted double-digit kills in the match (11), while teammate Alyssa Povey totaled eight kills, six blocks, and a .160 hitting percentage. 

Four Jacksonville State players tallied double-digit kills for the Gamecocks in the match: Kaylee Frear leading JSU with 13 kills and .417 hitting percentage, while Sadie Anderson tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, and Charis Ludtke and Makenzie Rombach rounded out the Gamecock offense each with 10 kills. 

As a team, JSU hit .229 and 13.0 blocks to Tech's .162 and 9.0 blocks. However, the Golden Eagles tallied 55 kills, 55 assists, and 83 digs to the Gamecock's 53 kills, 52 assists, and 72 digs. 

In their first meeting last year, Jacksonville State defeated Tech 3-1 with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 12-25, and 25-22.

Cody Dodd and Kellie Williams led the Golden Eagles, each with 14 kills. Dodd also tallied 18 digs in the match, while teammates Shaneice James tallied 12 kills and Sharon Anderson posted 46 assists and 16 digs. 

Emily Rutherford led the Gamecocks with 18 kills and 15 digs in the match. Hannah Kirk posted 21 digs, while teammate Jennifer Hart tallied 42 assists and 10 digs. 

As a team, Jacksonville State hit .163 to Tech's .155. The Golden Eagles tallied 51 assists to the Gamecock's 48, but gathered just 83 digs to JSU's 85. 

In their second meeting of the 2015 season, Tech saw victory this time 3-1 over Jacksonville State, taking set scores of 25-21, 25-13, 20-25, and 25-17.

Dodd led the Golden Eagles with 23 kills and 13 digs, while Williams tallied 11 kills and Anderson posted 44 assists and nine digs. 

Rutherford led the Gamecocks with 17 kills and 11 digs in the contest, while teammate Charis Ludtke tallied 14 kills and 12 digs. Hart posted 44 assists and 11 digs as well for JSU. 

As a team, Tech hit .245 to Jacksonville State's .135. Each team tallied 48 assists in the match, however, the Golden Eagles put up 12.0 blocks to the Gamecock's 8.0. 

The Golden Eagles travel to Jacksonville State after going 0-2 last weekend. Tech fell to TSU and Belmont each by a 3-0 margin. 

Freshman Rachel Thomas leads the Golden Eagles with 204 kills on the year. She has also tallied 44 blocks, 40 digs, and a .150 hitting percentage thus far this season. 

Fellow freshman Abigail Duncan had a standout weekend last week. The 5-10 outside led Tech in both of their contests, putting up eight kills versus Tennessee State and notching her first career double-double against Belmont where she tallied 13 kills and 13 digs with a .200 hitting percentage.

Other key players on the Golden Eagle lineup are seniors Alyssa Povey, Sharon Anderson, and Kennedy Wade

Povey serves as a dual threat for the Tech squad both offensive and defensively. On the season, Povey has tallied 172 kills (third most on the team) and 70 blocks (most on the squad). She hits .183 on the year while also notching 58 digs. 

Anderson stands as the Golden Eagles main setter, tallying 829 assists (9.01 per set) to lead Tech and rank her fifth in the OVC. She has also totaled the second most digs on the team with 275 (2.99 per set) thus far this season. 

Kennedy Wade leads the Golden Eagles in digs with 434 (4.47 per set), which marks her the fifth best amongst Ohio Valley Conference opponents.

As a team, Tech ranks first in the OVC in digs (17.69 per set); 10th in service aces (0.95 per set) and assists (10.70 per set); 11th in kills (11.35 per set) and opponent hitting percentage (.225); and 12th in blocks (1.35 per set) and hitting percentage (.129) 

As a team, Jacksonville State ranks first in blocks (2.73 per set); second in hitting percentage (.208); fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.172); 10th in kills (11.47 per set); 11th in assists (10.70 per set); and 12th in service aces (0.80 per set) and digs (13.02 per set).
