Tech blanked 5-0 to open weekend trip up north

By Dylan Vazzano, Sports Information Coordinator

DAYTON, Ohio – The Tennessee Tech soccer team began its weekend trip up north in tough fashion, falling 5-0 to Wright State in a match that saw five different Raiders (2-6-0) find the back of the net on 22 shots.

The Golden Eagles (2-6-0) fell victim to a pair of strong spurts by WSU as the Raiders caught fire towards the end of the first half with two goals in the final 20 minutes, before mirroring a similar stretch to begin the second with two scores in the first 15 minutes of the period.

Scoreless into the 26th minute, freshman Bryce Hueber split the pipes for the Cincinnati, Ohio native's second goal of the 2014 campaign with fellow freshman Ellie Ganz credited with the assist. Freshmen production would go on to be a theme in the contest after freshman Megan Wilcox scored in the 38th minute, using a Paige Aguilera assist to give WSU a 2-0 advantage.

In total, five different freshmen would tally a point for the Raiders, including the aforementioned Ellie Ganz, and Stevee Hazel who would collect a goal in the second half, part of a three-goal stanza for Wright State. Ganz kicked off the second-half scoring with a goal in the 53rd minute, while Hazel's score came just before the final whistle in the 89th minute. Sandwiched in between the pair of net finders was an unassisted Natalie Sedlock goal, the only Raider to score that wasn't a freshman.

Appearing in her second match of the year, sophomore Allison Barlow made five second-half saves for the Golden Eagles, splitting the tilt evenly with senior Rebecca Toler who made three stops in the first period. Across the way, the junior tandem of Kelsey Deal and Halle Pyle teamed up to blank TTU, recording just one save in the process.

Tech will try to rebound on Sunday, traveling to Evansville to take on the Purple Aces at 11 a.m. CT.
