MUNCIE, Ind. - The Golden Eagles end their weekend road trip up north with an even split, dropping this afternoon's affair 2-0 to Ball State University. Coming off a season high three goals in Friday's 3-1 victory over the University of Findlay, Tech (1-5-0) managed just eight shots in today's blanking, on the way to being outshot 22-8.
Scoreless through nearly two thirds of the first half, TTU blinked first in the 30th minute. The Cardinals (4-1-0) broke through first, scoring off a free kick from freshman Kelsey Wendlandt, the forward's third score of the young season. Junior Cailey Starck and senior Michelle Blok were both credited with assists on the play.
Ball State took its 1-0 lead into the half, outshooting the Golden Eagles 10-5 over the first 45 minutes of action.
Fast forward to the 64th minute, and the Cardinals padded their one-goal advantage. Sophomore Madison Oyer smacked one right in front of the goal that fellow sophomore Elaina Musleh cashed in on with her first goal of the 2013 campaign.
TTU was unable to mount a comeback with only three second stanza shots. Senior's Ellie Iaciofano and Shannon Rountree, along with freshman Kalyn Pruett led Tech with two shots each. Iaciofano, Pruett, and junior Katie Phillips each had one shot-on-goal.
Golden Eagles' sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Brown earned six more saves, bringing her total to 49 over the first six matches. Across the pitch, Ball State senior Layne Schramm was forced to make just three saves.
Tech will have a week off before wrapping up its string of four straight road tilts, as the Golden Eagles travel to Middle Tennessee State next Sunday at 5 p.m. CDT.
