Tech soccer team continues volunteer tradition at After Dark-Race for the Park 8K

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Known throughout the Cookeville community for its helpful ways, the Tennessee Tech soccer team continued its long-standing tradition of community service by volunteering at the sixth annual After Dark - Race for the Park 8K and Kids for the Park 1 Mile Fun Run.

Prior to the beginning of the event head coach Daniel Brizard and the members of the Golden Eagle squad helped set up luminaries along the Dixie Avenue race route fro the children's 1 Mile Fun Run. The team also took part in the mile-long race, running alongside the kids to help preach the message of the event.

Both races serve as a benefit for Dogwood Park. The Race for the Park's mission is to facilitate the community's involvement in the growth and development of Dogwood Park, while encouraging the citizens of Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland region to improve their health through regular exercise.

For the fifth consecutive year the Golden Eagle student athletes stationed themselves at water stations every two miles. Beyond the water they handed out, the team also offered encouragement to the runners to keep on pushing through the pain.

The Golden Eagles will open the 2013 season with a neutral site contest in Knoxville against Kennesaw State on Friday, Aug. 23.
