BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the first time in her career, Tennessee Tech's Elisabeth Toennessen was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference's Female Golfer of Week, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
The junior enjoyed the best performance of her collegiate career at the Nevel Meade Collegiate Monday and Tuesday, tying for sixth among 90 golfers while competing at Nevel Meade Golf Course in Prospect, Ky. Carding a 229, Toennessen turned in the first top-10 showing of her career.
A native of Grimstad, Norway, Toennessen improved each round of the event, posting a 79 in her first trip around the course. She bounced back in the second round, shaving three strokes from her score with four birdies and a 4-over 76.
Leading the purple and gold in the event, produced four more birdies in the third and final round, tying her career-best round with a 2-over 74.
With the honor, Toennessen became the first Golden Eagle to earn OVC Female Golfer of the Week accolades since Hollee Sadler on Oct. 5, 2016.
