Tech completes round one, second round paused due to darkness at Sea Best Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first day of the Sea Best Intercollegiate came to a close Monday evening, with many in the field of 18 teams, including the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, still needing to finish up multiple holes of the second round.

With round one of action completed at San Jose Country Club, round two was well on its way before being halted due to darkness. Play will be picked back up at 7:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday, with the third round to follow immediately.

Through one round of action, the Golden Eagles sat tied for 15th, posting a 335 to match the output of Butler. It also left the purple and gold just four shots back of 13th and six back of 12th. Seminole State College paced the field, delivering a 309 to hold a one-shot lead over Lipscomb and Houston Baptist. Seminole State's Minori Nagano led on the individual side of scoring after posting a 1-under 71.

Junior Elisabeth Toennessen was the top performer for the Cookeville crew in the first round of action, settling on an 80 with a pair of birdies. The Tech veteran tied for 28th among the 95 competitors.

Sophomore Ainsley Simms followed close behind, registering an 81 to tie for 41st overall. She too put forth a couple of birdies in the round. Senior Hannah Bratton was next among the Tech finishers, carding an 84 with seven pars to the round to tie for 62nd.

Makenzie Morton completed the first round of the spring with a 90, etching out five pars. Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup, Heidi Lawson tallied a 92 with a pair of birdies.
