Getting to know: Anna Riggs, Spencer Smith and Shaela Ledbetter

Every student-athlete has a story, details about themselves and their background that extend beyond just the playing field and athletics.

Throughout the summer, we will take a look at the members of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and get to know more about them, the student-athletes who are representing not just their home communities, but also the University, Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland as they don the purple and gold. We asked the team to provide facts about themselves that they want you, the fans, to know about them.

Today, we shift the focus to managers Anna Riggs, Spencer Smith and Shaela Ledbetter. Riggs joined the manager staff midway through the 2021-22 campaign and is entering her first full season, while this is the first season for Smith and Ledbetter, while they both follow a legacy with Tech women's basketball. Behind-the-scenes and at the bench, the Tech managers are diligent, hard-working students who help keep the programs running like a fine-tuned machine

ANNA RIGGS

  1. I have a twin sister, Ashlyn, who also goes to TTU now.
  2. I am OBSESSED with shoes. Shoes make or break the outfit, so you can never have too many shoes. My parents think otherwise on my shoe purchases.
  3. I have only broken one bone in my life, and it was my left wrist at basketball practice during my sophomore year of high school. Reghan Grimes, who is a freshman on WBB this year, was there when it happened, so I am sure she had a better day in practice than me.
  4. I learned how to juggle from one of my teammates my senior year of high school, and now it is one of my favorite random skills and I can even do it with basketballs.
  5. My favorite NBA team is the Phoenix Suns and have been ever since Devin Booker was drafted there in 2015. I even have a picture from when I met him at a Memphis Grizzlies game.

SPENCER SMITH

  1. I recently just graduated this past May after finishing four years of college basketball at Welch College.
  2. I have been a bookworm my whole life, but I put them down for a few years. I pick them up again this past year and have been addicted since.
  3. I'm addicted to fitness and working out – I try to get into the gym seven days a week.
  4. I have a golden doodle named Bentley, and he is four years old.
  5. My mom graduated and played basketball at Tennessee Tech. Now I get to help out with the team, so it has come full circle.

SHAELA LEDBETTER

  1. I come from a Tennessee Tech family.  My uncle (Corey Ledbetter) and my brother (Blake Ledbetter) were former Tennessee Tech Women's Basketball managers. I am carrying on the family tradition.
  2. I am a Pre-Vet major planning on focusing on large animals.
  3. My hobbies are riding and showing horses. My family owns a farm with 30+ horses where we do trail rides, lessons and boarding.  Many of our horses are rescues.
  4. My family also owns Willow Grove Resort on Dale Hollow Lake. I have had the privilege of growing up at this marina.
  5. My boyfriend is going to Middle Tennessee State University. He is majoring in aerospace. He is also a licensed private pilot.
