Na'Asha Robinson shares OVC Female Runner of the Week honor


COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech freshman sprinter Na'Asha Robinson has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Track & Field co-Female Runner of the Week following another record-breaking performance over the weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational.

Robinson smashed the school record in the 400-meter dash, and now owns the fasterst time on the conference and the eighth-best time in the nation at that distance among NCAA Division I schools. She raced around the Vandy loop in 54.14 seconds, breaking her own school record that was set in December.

A freshman from Huntsville, Ala., Robinson also ran on Tech's 4x400 relay team which finished second in the time of 3:52.66. Earlier this season she helped break the school mark in he 4x400, and also has set school record in the 55m and 200m events in her first month of collegiate track & field competition.

In addition to the top time in the league at 400 meters, Robinson currently has the third-best time in the OVC in the 60m and fifth-fastest in the 200m dash.

She was joined in receiving the Female Runer of the Week award by Amy Yeoman of Eastern Illinois and Amber Hughes from Tennessee State.

CO-MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Darius Smith, Senior, Chicago, Ill. - SIUE
Smith set a new school record and ran a personal best 6.79 in the 60 meters to finish third at the Missouri Invite. His time ranks him first in the OVC this season.
 
Quamel Prince, Jr.,Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee State
Prince set a personal best and finished third in the 400-meters with a time of 48.13. His mark is the fastest in the OVC this season and ranks 38th in the nation. He was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed fourth with a time of 3:16.45.

CO- FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amy Yeoman, Sr., Petersburg, Ill. – Eastern Illinois
Yeoman set a new personal record in the 800-meter run at the Illini Classic with a time of 2:14.63. The time is the eighth fastest in Eastern Illinois history and is first in the OVC this season.
 
Amber Hughes, Jr., Atlanta, Ga. – Tennessee State
Hughes earned a trio of top five finishes last week. She placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.29 which is first in the OVC this season and is a new personal best. She took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.36. Her mark ranks third in the OVC and is a new personal best. Hughes was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed third.

Robinsin broke the 400-meter school record with a time of 56.14 to take first place at the Commodore Invitational. Her time ranks first in the OVC this year. She also ran in the 4x400 relay, placing sixth with a time of 3:52.66

CO-MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Del McSpadden, Jr., Brentwood, Tenn. – Belmont
McSpadden took fifth in the weight throw at the Commordore Invitational. His mark of 55'10.50" ranks first in the OVC this season.
 
Chris Martin, Jr., Cape Girardeau, Mo. – Southeast Missouri
Martin took first in the triple jump at the Missouri Invitational. His leap of 50'11" ranks first in the OVC this season.
 
Julian Harvey, Jr., Edwardsville, Ill. – SIUE
Harvey placed second in the long jump at the Missouri Invitational. His posted a personal best mark of 24-1.5" which also ranks first in the OVC this year.

FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Clairwin Dameus, Sr., Boynton Beach, Fla. – Tennessee State
Dameus took fifth in the long jump at the Commodore Invitational with a mark of 20-2.5" Her distance is first in the OVC this year and ranks 10th in the nation.
