EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Tennessee Tech track and field team wrapped up the 2014 outdoor season on Saturday as they closed out the Ohio Valley Conference Championship meet on the campus of SIU Edwardsville.
The Golden Eagles closed out the meet with five different events, the 1,500-meter race, the 5,000-meter race, the 4x100 relay, the 4x400 relay, and the triple jump.
Sophomore Atlanta Westbrook, who set the school record in the triple jump this season, finished 10th in the event with a mark of 37-05.75, narrowly missing her best mark of 37-08.5.
Seniors Emily Williams and Amelia McCoy competed in the 1,500-meter race. Williams hit a time of 5:19.53 and McCoy followed with a time of 5:26.38.
On Friday, The Golden Eagles were led by two seniors who will hang up their jerseys and spikes.
Senior Rebecca Cline, who has set personal-record after personal-record this outdoor season, finally capped off her senior campaign by breaking a seven-year-old school record in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase run. Cline ran an impressive time of 11:20.03, eclipsing the previous record of 11:23.52 by Alathea Thompson on April 21, 2006. Cline's time also helped her place seventh in the final meet of the year, earning two points for the Golden Eagles.
Senior Lacy Yslas also highlighted day one of the OVC Outdoor Championship meet, finishing sixth in the discus with a toss of 136-02, earning three points for the Golden Eagles. Yslas finished just side of top-scoring eight athletes in the javelin, finishing in ninth with a throw of 116-00.
