CHARLESTON, Ill. – After establishing nine
personal-best marks on Friday, another seven career numbers were
rewritten Saturday by the Tennessee Tech women's track & field
team as the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships wrapped up
at Eastern Illinois University.
Host EIU captured the men's championship while Southeast Missouri
claimed the women's title.
Coach Tony Cox had entries in only five events Saturday, and
Golden Eagle individuals posted career-best efforts in three.
In the triple jump, freshman Chelsea Mills beat
her previous best by half-an-inch, going 36 feet, two inches. Kelli Keck
leaped 34 feet, 7.5 inches in the same event.
In the mile run, all three Golden Eagles who ran finished with
their best times. Freshman Landry Loving was
the team's leader, finishing in 5:49.92. Elizabeth
Mitchell (5:53.79) and Kendale
Caldwell (5:55.60) also had personal-best runs.
Tech also had three best marks in the 3,000-meter run, led by
junior Rebecca
Cline in 10:46.68 to finish 17th overall. Beth Miller ran an
11:00.41, and Amelia McCoy
crossed the line in 11:56.97. Kathryn Forbes
ran the event for the first time in 11:46.97.
In field events Saturday, Katie Lowery came
up two inches short of her own school record and personal-high,
clearing the bar at 10 feet, two inches to place 11th
overall.
In the shot put, Lacy Yslas (in photo)
had the top toss with a mark of 37 feet, 11.25 inches. Madison Borden's
best throw was 36 feet, 8.25 inches, while Margarett
Holder finished with a toss of 33 feet, 9.5 inches.
In the day's final event, Tech's 4x400 relay team posted a
season-best time. The relay team of Dalis Connell, Brittany Cotto,
Katie Lowery and Kendale Caldwell circled the distance in
4:21.68.
With the indoor season completed, the Golden Eagles will open the
outdoor season March 22-23 at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold
Invitational.
