BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Following nearly two weeks away from competition, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team put all of that practice time to good use and showed it Monday afternoon at the Kenny Perry Invitational hosted by Western Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles couldn't quite finish the second round of play at The Club at Olde Stone, with weather and darkness forcing the completion of round two to come Tuesday morning. At the time of play being called, the Tech squad was in second place in the 12-team field, having posted a first-round score of 296 and shooting one-over with two holes left to score over the second round.

Just Mitch Thomas and A.J. Wilkerson had holes left to finish, with one remaining for each Golden Eagle. Through it all, true freshman Matthew Giles led the Tech squad on the first day, firing off a first-round 71 and following that up with a second-round 70. At 3-under, he was ranked in a tie for second place overall after collecting seven birdies and an eagle through 36 holes.

With one hole left to play, Thomas found himself tied for seventh in the 67-man field, posting a 1-over 73 through the first 18 holes. The senior then played to par for much of the second round, recording one bogey and one birdie to sit even through 17 holes.

Also tied for seventh was redshirt freshman Ben Huskey. The youngster put together a solid first round, completing the first 18 holes with a 2-over 74. He then went birdie crazy over the second 18, notching five of the tweeting things to finish with a 1-under 71.

Sophomore A.J. Wilkerson represented Tech's other player needing to finish one hole, having posted a 78 in the first round and sitting at 4-over through 17 holes in the second round. He was tied for 37th when play was called.

Wrapping up the competitors for Tech was senior Adam Cunningham, who carded rounds of 80 and 76 to sit in a tie for 49th overall.

The Golden Eagles will conclude round two action first thing Tuesday morning. Round three will follow with the final 18 holes of the tournament.
