COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech volleyball team added some height to its roster this spring, welcoming the newest Golden Eagle in JUCO transfer Alyssa Povey.

"Alyssa comes to us from a very good junior college program that turns out DI players. She flew under the radar in her initial recruiting because where she is from is off most recruiting trails," said Tech head coach Dave Zelenock on adding Povey to his roster.

"She has great size and skill and will add more depth to the middle hitter position. It's rare when you're able to add someone to your team who's 6-3, has fast feet and is a great person, so we jumped at the opportunity. Right now she's learning a new system and adjusting to the workload of a Division I program. She's done a great job jumping right in with training and making changes and we expect her to keep improving throughout spring and be ready to help us in the fall."

Povey, a 6-3 middle blocker and a native of Clifton Idaho, comes to Cookeville from the College of Southern Idaho, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, and will have three years of eligibility as a Golden Eagle.

Before her time at CSI, Povey competed in volleyball, basketball and track and field at West Side High School, earning All-Valley Volleyball player of the year in 2011-12. She was key to WSHS winning two district championships in volleyball and a state championship in 2011. Outside of high school volleyball, Alyssa played for Club Canyon.

The Golden Eagles will be looking to improve upon their 2013 season when they went 5-21.
