COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – In what has turned into a custom accolade for the Tennessee Tech soccer team, the Golden Eagles once again found themselves honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, picking up the prestigious distinction for the 15th-consecutive year.

As play on the pitch has officially started for the 2023 campaign, Tech boasts another classroom achievement after the purple and gold combined for a 3.63 GPA during the 2022-23 school year. Criteria for the award consists of a team must having a composite team GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official roster forms for the fall season.

The Golden Eagles were one of seven OVC schools to pick up this year's honor, finishing with the second-highest GPA among other programs in the conference (SEMO – 3.74). TTU is the only school in the league to claim the award for at least seven straight years.

Tech's academic tradition has been showcased over the years, with Golden Eagle soccer once again securing the Tech athletics department Large Academic Team of the Year accolade in April's Golden Wings Awards, the program's seventh such honor in the last eight years. 18 soccer student-athletes found themselves on the Spring 2023 Athletic Director's Honor Roll to go along with 22 student-athletes on the Fall 2022 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

With two matches this season in the books for the purple and gold, Tech will set its sights on a road contest at Liberty on Friday, Aug. 25. TTU's next home tilt is on Aug. 31 against ETSU at 6 p.m. CT. Admission to Tech Soccer Field is free of charge.
