PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The first tournament of the 2020-21 campaign came to an abrupt end for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team and all the participants of the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic Tuesday morning, as inclement weather washed out the third and final round of competition at the Nicklaus Course at Bay Point Golf Club.

With the cancellation of the third round of action, the Golden Eagles concluded their first event of the year in sixth place among nine teams. Sophomore Elisabeth Toennessen finished as the team's top performer for the week, tying for 24th among 54 golfers with a 163 overall.

"It's very unfortunate that we could not finish our first event of the year," Tech head coach Polk Brown said. "The ladies have worked very hard and were excited to finally get back to competition, but sometimes mother nature has other ideas. We are happy to have had the opportunity to play our first two rounds though. Now we can't wait to get back home, put in some work and prepare for our next opportunity at the end of the month."

Next on the docket for the Golden Eagles is the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, a stop at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island S.C. Tech will visit the event for the sixth straight year, with the tournament representing the purple and gold's final event from the 2019-20 season before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the campaign. Hosted at the Oak Point and Cougar Point courses at the Kiawah Island Resort, the event will run from Feb. 28 through Mar. 2.
