BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech women's basketball guard Maaliya Owens was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Freshman of the Week following her stellar performance during Tech's 94-45 rout of Tennessee Wesleyan, the league office announced on Monday. Owens earned the honor alongside Shay-Lee Kirby of Austin Peay.

Owens, from Georgetown, Ky., posted a career-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-13 (.462) from the field and 4-of-10 (.400) from 3-point range in just 20 minutes of play. The freshman was on fire during the opening half against the Bulldogs, scoring 14 of her 16 points during the first 20 minutes of the contest. Owens also dished out a career-high four assists, and pulled down three boards in the win.

The honor marks Tech's first Freshman of the Week nod since Mackenzie Coleman earned the distinction back on Feb. 6 of the 2017-18 season.

The Golden Eagles (7-4) will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Richmond, Ky. to open conference play against Eastern Kentucky at 4 p.m. on ESPN+ and 106.1 The Eagle.
