Tech wraps up OVC Championships with solid day, more PRs

MURRAY, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team wrapped up the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with some momentum Friday, collecting 28 more points to finish seventh overall with 36 total points for the week.

"We got some very bad breaks during this year's OVC Championships, but our student-athletes dusted themselves off and went out there for the team," Tech head coach Peter Dalton expressed. "We're proud of the way we finished off a great year for Tech track and cross country."

Shining on the third and final day of action was Kendall Medders, crushing a personal record in the high jump as part of six different PRs by the Golden Eagles on the day. The sophomore placed second for eight huge points for the team, clearing a career-high 1.65 meters (5'5").

Also collecting a podium finish was the 4x400-meter relay team of Trenia Stephens, Britnie Dixon, Kategie Casseus, and Amara Nwajagu. The group earned the bronze, and six more team points, placing third with a season-best time of 3:49.39.

The 4x100-meter relay squad turned in four points for the purple and gold, completing the event fifth overall. Casseus, Stephens, Samaria Allen, and Nwajagu combined for a team season-best mark of 47.70 seconds.

Also taking home four points for the team's effort was Jalena Curbeam, posting a fifth-place showing in the triple jump. The Golden Eagle veteran amassed a PR leap of 11.86 meters (38'11") on the day.

Competing in the 400-meter finals, Nwajagu picked up another three points for the Cookeville crew. The rookie clocked in a personal-best mark of 56.91 seconds to finish sixth overall. Ruby Wyles rounded out the scoring on the day, earning a sixth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:41.95.

Picking up the sixth PR of the day for the Golden Eagles was Helen Pacurariu-Nagy, snagging a top-10 finish in the 5,000-meter run. She clocked in at 17:58.48 to beat her previous career mark by a considerable amount.
