CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Even with just a small contingent participating at the Flames Invitational, the Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team showed strong results in their lone day of competition on Friday in the three-day event.
A quartet of Golden Eagle distance runners each produced career-best showings on the day, all while competing in the 5,000-meter run in Cleveland, Tenn. It was Amanda Laboy pacing the purple and gold in the event, garnering a top-20 showing.
The sophomore shattered her previous personal-best mark in the 5,000-meter by more than a full minute, racing to a time of 17:46.39. Taking her first collegiate stab at the outdoor 5,000-meter event, Helen Pacurariu-Nagy posted her own PR with a time of 18:07.19.
Also competing in the event for the first time in her outdoor career, Maddie Long clocked in at 18:40.17 to set her own lifetime record. Rounding out the purple and gold, veteran Rahab Sawe turned in a time of 18:46.41 to also record a PR.
Four members of the Golden Eagle men's cross country team also competed in the Flames Invitational as individuals, led by Clayton Kirkus in the men's 1,500-meter run. He set a personal-best mark of 4:04.69.
Taking part in the men's 5,000-meter run, Chase Faudi led a trio of Golden Eagles with a time of 15:19.78. Rookies Robert Dawson and Nick Beattie followed close behind, each posting PRs with times of 15:29.13 and 15:29.73, respectively.
