Senior Kendall Hooper named adidas® OVC Player of the Week

By Dylan Vazzano, TTU Sports Information Coordinator

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Driving in 10 runs and leading the Tennessee Tech softball team to a 3-1 record was more than enough for senior Kendall Hooper to be recognized as the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

The Hermitage, Tenn. native was given the honor Monday afternoon after hitting .467 (7-15) for the week, smashing two home runs, roping three doubles, picking up 10 RBI, scoring six runs, and swiping one bag.

Hooper kicked off the week by hitting two home runs against No. 4 Tennessee, before going 5-for-12 with six RBI in the weekend's three-game sweep of Tennessee State. The 5-foot-6 first baseman has now had at least one RBI in seven straight games.

The impressive week bumps Hooper's average to .294, which is good enough for second on the team behind junior Angi Sakamoto, while Hooper is also second on Tech with 25 RBI, and is tied with Sakamoto for the team high with five round trippers.

Winners of three straight, the Golden Eagles will head to UT Martin on Friday, Apr. 18 for a doubleheader, before traveling to Southeast Missouri for a twin bill on Saturday, Apr. 19.
