CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team put together an impressive showing Sunday at Austin Peay, as the Golden Eagles rolled from start to finish on their way to a 7-0 victory over the Govs.
Tech (6-13, 2-1) has now won back-to-back OVC matches, both by 7-0 margins after blanking Eastern Illinois Mar. 30 in Cookeville.
The purple and gold controlled singles play, dropping only one set in the six clashes. Rafael Tosetto secured a 6-4, 6-2 win over Almantas Ozelis in the top spot, one of three freshmen that triumphed at the top of Tech's lineup. Carlos Vicente took home a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (6) victory against Christian Alvin Edison in the No. 2 matchup, while Elias Grubert registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Anton Damberg out of the No. 3 slot.
Riku Kubota soared to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Timo Kiesslich in the No. 4 meeting. Wenceslao Albin took care of his No. 5 clash against Jacob Lorino with a 6-1, 6-2 nod, and Fanis Kontopoulos picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win against Hunter Sanders in the No. 6 battle.
TTU started the match with by checking the win columns in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions en route to the point. Carlos Vicente and Gonzalo Garcia powered past Almantas Ozelis and Anton Damberg with a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 spot, and the Tech tandem of Lucca Silva and Rafael Tosetto notched a 6-0 win over Chad Woodham and Jacob Lorino in the No. 3 matchup.
Wenceslao Albin and Riku Kubota led Christian Alvin Edison and Timo Kiesslich 5-2 at the time the No. 2 clash was called.
With just two matches left in the regular season, the Golden Eagles will head to Jacksonville State on Saturday, April 13.
