Tech tennis team to compete in Chattanooga and Nashville this weekend

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team will head into the weekend with split action on the docket, sending multiple Golden Eagles to both the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships (hosted by Chattanooga) and the Commodore Scramble (hosted by Vanderbilt).

Taking part in the inaugural Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships at Manker Patten will be senior Wenceslao Albin, sophomore Gonzalo Garcia, and freshmen Lucca Silva and Carlos Vicente.

The event, which runs from Friday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, Sept. 16, will feature participants from Chattanooga, Memphis, UAB, Tech, East Tennessee State and Troy. The layout in composed of a 32-man compass draw in singles and 16 tandems in doubles. Action will begin each day with doubles plays at approximately 8 a.m. CT.

Competing at the Commodore Scramble in Nashville will be junior Fanis Kontopoulos, sophomore Riku Kubota and freshmen Elias Grubert and Rafael Tosetto.

Also running from Friday through Sunday, the event will feature participants from Belmont, Lipscomb, Tech, Louisville and Furman. The format will feature two compass draws of 16 players and a one compass draw of 16 doubles tandems. Play will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Friday and feature a shotgun style with 15 matches taking place at once and the 16th taking place on the first open court.
