BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech graduate transfer Shaq Calhoun took home his first weekly accolades from the Ohio Valley Conference Monday afternoon, claiming a share of the league's Newcomer of the Week award.

A graduate transfer from South Alabama, Calhoun averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while hitting 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from the field, 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from 3-point range and 75 percent (3-of-4) from the free throw line in a pair of road games in Nashville.

On Saturday, he scored 17 of his TTU career-best 23 points in the second half, including draining a game-tying 3-pointer with 12.1 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, as Tech overcame a first half deficit to top Tennessee State 87-81. He also added four rebounds, two steals and an assist while connecting on 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc.

Calhoun opened the week with 14 points and a rebound at Belmont. He drained 4-of-5 3-pointers in 20 minutes off the bench.

The Golden Eagles will return to the Eblen Center on Thursday, Jan. 11 to host Austin Peay in a 7:30 p.m. CT contest.
