Murphy named to OVC All-Tournament Team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech guard Kevin Murphy was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference Tournament team at the conclusion on Saturday’s championship game at Municipal Arena.

Murphy led Tech with 24 points in the Golden Eagles’ quarterfinal victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday and capped off an outstanding senior campaign by scoring 31 against No. 9 Murray State in Friday’s semifinals. The performance was Murphy’s fifth 30-plus-point game of the season.

In scoring 31 on Friday, Murphy became just the 16th player in OVC history to score 2,000 career points. He also added five rebounds and three assists.

The honor marked the second-consecutive year Murphy has been named to the OVC All-Tournament team.

Against Southeast Missouri, the Atlanta, Ga., native hit back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 70-70 with 1:25 left to play, setting the scene for Zac Swansey to give the Golden Eagles the lead with a three-pointer with 21 seconds left.

In addition to his 24 points against the Redhawks, Murphy also finished with three steals and two assists.

The rest of the All-Tournament team consisted of Robert Covington and Patrick Miller of Tennessee State and Isaiah Canaan and Donte Poole of Murray State. Poole was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
