COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech quarterback Michael Birdsong put up some impressive numbers in his one season as the starting quarterback for the Golden Eagles.

Now he's going to get one more game to show just what he can do as he was selected to the rosters for the FBS All-Americans Tropical Bowl, held on Jan. 15 at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Birdsong will play for the National Team, coached by Mike Stock. Stock coached collegiately at Eastern Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame, as well as professionally in the USFL's New Jersey Generals and the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams and Green Bay Packers.

This is the second year for this all-star showcase, with 27 NFL teams sending scouts for the 2016 event.

Birdsong ended the season throwing for 2,577 yards and 17 touchdowns as he completed 216 of his 346 passes. On the ground, Birdsong ran for 226 yards on 104 carries, including four touchdowns.

He ended the year second in the Ohio Valley Conference in average passing yards per game (234.3), fourth in pass efficiency (137.2), and third in total offense per game (254.8).

Birdsong is the second Golden Eagle to receive a bid to an all-star game this season, joining Maleek Hall, who will appear in the Dream Bowl this month.
