Dohrmann leads balanced effort for Tech women in 10th place finish at OVC Championships

 

OXFORD, Ala. – Senior Yeshi Dohrmann paced a balanced effort from the Tennessee Tech women's cross country team Saturday morning in the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Championships, posting one of three career-best times by Golden Eagle runners in the 5K race.

Tech finished 10th overall in a race dominated by Eastern Kentucky, which had six of the first eight runners and scored a near-perfect 19 points. Eastern Illinois was a distant second with 78 points, while Belmont finished third (86), Southeast Missouri fourth (95) and Murray State fifth (144).

The balance of the field included Morehead State in sixth place (154), followed by SIU Edwardsville (191), Austin Peay (225), Jacksonville State (274), Tennessee Tech (314), UT Martin (324) and Tennessee State (340).

"Our women had several personal best times today. We are still learning how to compete as individuals as well as a team," said first-year head coach Wayne Angel. "In time, with maturity and strong recruiting, we will make our presence known in the OVC."

Dohrmann covered the distance in 19:18.30 to place 50th overall, besting her previous career-best by eight seconds. Freshmen Anna Cooper and Lera McNamara also had PR times. Cooper finished second on the team and 62nd overall in 19:51.44, while McNamara was Tech's fourth finisher and 67th overall in 20:13.07. In between, junior Landy Loving placed 66th in 20:12.10, while freshman Baylee Balgemann rounded out Tech's lineup with a time of 22:52.59.

Ann Eason of Eastern Kentucky was the individual winner in 17:04.73, beating Hannah Wittman of Belmont by two seconds for the crown.

Tech's next action is the NCAA South Regional on Nov. 14 in Tallahassee, Fla.
