Dig Pink this Friday: Tech volleyball raises money for breast cancer research

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - As part of the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team will join thousands of other high school and college teams from around the country this Friday in raising money for breast cancer research.

Golden Eagle volleyball players will be carrying containers with them throughout the week to collect donations until Tech's match on Friday, November 6 against Tennessee State. Anyone who donates a minimum of one dollar prior to Friday's match will have their name entered in a drawing for several prizes, including a Tennessee Tech gift basket and an autographed photo with the Golden Eagle volleyball team.

As part of the Dig Pink promotion, TTU volleyball players will be wearing pink warm-ups and senior libero Katie Kenline will sport a pink jersey. Fans are invited to join in by wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

The proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

Since its inception in 2004 and including donations received thus far in 2009, The Side-Out Foundation will have provided more than $700,000 to Breast Cancer research with a goal of receiving $1,000,000 in 2010 alone.

Side-Out Foundation

The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. They have raised thousands of thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling which is where there is a hot bed of research activity. Their name underscores the purpose of the organization - "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against Breast Cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.
