Golden Eagles maintains position after day two of Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Round two of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic officially came to an end Monday afternoon, with the Tennessee Tech women's golf team maintaining position after playing the Osprey Point Course of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The Golden Eagles completed the second round of the largest collegiate golf event in the nation in a tie for 33rd among the 43 participating teams. Tech shaved five strokes off its round one total, finishing with a 307 for a two-round score of 619 to tie with Longwood.

Setting the tone for Tech on day two was senior Allyson Dunn, who knocked off eight strokes from her first round to rank in a tie for 29th among the 218 golfers. The veteran fired a season-low, 3-under 69 to sit at 146 through two rounds. After 36 holes, Dunn ranked second among all participants with 10 birdies and among the top-10 in par-4 scoring, sitting even overall.

Next among the Golden Eagle starters was sophomore Shelby Johnson, who carded an 83 to rank tied for 144th with a 157 overall. Junior Lindsay Miller trimmed two strokes from her day one round, posting a 7-over 78 for a total of 158. She ranked in a tie for 152nd overall.

Fellow junior Hollee Sadler totaled 162 through two rounds, matching her first-round 81 with the same score in the second to tie for 177th. Sophomore Arianna Clemmer closed out the round for the Golden Eagles, tying for 182nd behind an improved day. Following her 84 on Sunday, the youngster turned in a 79 for a two-day total of 163.

Host College of Charleston expanded its lead in the event, moving to 9-under with a grand total of 567 after a tournament-low 279. Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo took over sole possession of first place individually, carding a 68 for a total of 137.

The Tech squad will compete for a flight championship on the Oak Point course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Tuesday morning, kicking off the final round of play with a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start.
