BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- For the second straight week, Tennessee Tech junior guard/forward Anna Jones was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week, in a vote by the league's sports information contacts.
The Jackson native averaged 12.0 points and 7.7 rebounds across Tech's three games last week. Jones posted a career-high 12 rebounds in addition to nine points and five assists on Saturday against Morehead State. On Thursday, the Middle Tennessee transfer scored 17 points on a 6-for-9 shooting night against Eastern Kentucky, including a 4-for-5 effort at the free-throw line. Last Monday, Jones added 10 points at Jacksonville State.
It is Jones' third selection as the OVC Newcomer of the Week this season.
Southeast Missouri's Tesia Thompson, who the Golden Eagles will see on Thursday, was named the league's Player of the Week after averaging a double-double with 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a night last week. Eastern Kentucky's Alice Recanati, who posted a season-high 22 points last week against Tech, was named the OVC's Freshman of the Week.
Tech is on the road this week for a pair of crucial matchups, traveling to Southeast Missouri on Thursday and UT Martin on Saturday.
