Women's Basketball stomps Alcorn State

 

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Golden Eagles returned to true form in a dominating performance against an athletic Alcorn State. Tech won the battle 74-57 Tuesday night in the Eblen Center. The team shot 51.6% in the second half, and Lashay Davis cashed in on all the missed shots the team collected in the past week, banking a career high 19 points. 

The game ended with a three banked in from four feet behind the arc by Davis, capping a brillant performance by the senior. Davis went 5-8 from three-point land, and joined Diamond Henderson as the only other Golden Eagle to score double figures.

Henderson added five assists to her 18 point performance, while Jala Harris added six assists, a  career best, and eight points. Molly Heady added seven points, as did T'Keyah Williams who lead all rebounders with eight. 

Overall, 11 players saw action and nine scored as Tech's bench outscored Alcorn State 33-17. 

Tech trailed the Braves for majority of the first half before a three from Davis, followed by jumper by Harris gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game as they took 30-26 lead at the half. 

The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on the Braves in the second half, slowly swelling the lead to 18 points, 67-49, with 3:52 remaining. 

Tech's defense forced 18 Alcorn State turnovers and held the Braves to just 39 percent from the floor. 

Carolinsia Crumbly lead Alcorn State with 19 points while Tierro Frost added 15. 

Tech is back in action Saturday when it heads to Vanderbilt for their first road game of the season. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
