COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was a close game on Wednesday, but Kennesaw State used a four-run fifth inning to overcome the Tennessee Tech squad and take a 5-2 victory.

Carmen Betts led the Golden Eagles at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with one of Tech's two RBI. Abby Shoulders had the other RBI as her ball hit to second was misfielded, allowing Alina Schlageter to score on the throw to plate the first run of the game in the top of the third inning.

Ava Guzowski tied the game in the home half of the inning, driving in Stella Henry with a single.

Tech (12-10) retook the lead in the top of the fifth as Betts drove in Mac Fitzgerald with a base knock.

KSU (10-18) broke the game open as Guzowski brought Ty Hardeman in to roost with a sacrifice fly, then Kiera Cooper came through with a two-run double to plate Kassidy Amerson-Fox and Henry. Reese Evans' single allowed Cooper to score.

Peyton Wagner had a solid start, allowing one unearned run on two hits in three innings of work, walking two and striking out one. Lennon Spicer took the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits with two walks. Emily York threw the final frame, scattering two hits with one strikeout.

Owl starter Lindsey Kyte gave up one run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout, with reliever Leah Jannakos claiming the win. She yielded one run on three hits. Kenley Hilleary closed the game out with two hitless innings, allowing just two walks.

The Golden Eagles return to Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday as they head to Morehead State for a three-game set. After a mid-week contest at East Tennessee State next Wednesday, Tech will return home on Friday, March 29, to host Lindenwood on Easter weekend.
