Golden Eagles running in one of nation's largest meets Saturday in Louisville

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech cross country teams will be in Louisville Saturday to compete in one of the largest meets in the nation, featuring six different races and more than 125 collegiate teams.

With the University of Louisville hosting the NCAA National Championships later in the year, cross country teams from all across the nation -- including many expected to challenge for the national crown -- will be in the field at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

The men's races begin at 9:30 a.m., with Tech competing in Race No. 3 beginning at noon. The women's events are scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m., and the Tech women are in Race No. 3, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Coach Tony Cox will take a squad of eight men and nine women, and expects the Golden Eagles to post some of their fastest times.

"This will be one of the fastest courses in the country because it is so flat," Cox said. "This is our first time going to this race because it usually falls on the same weekend as our meet. They moved it ahead one week this year, so we're able to go."

Tech will host the TTU Invitational next Friday, Oct. 5, at Southern Hills Golf Course.

The women's races will be over a 5K route, while the men will cover an 8K circuit.

Results will be posted when they become available on TTUsports.com
