Sunday 9/26 RECAP

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A valiant showing and an impressive run came to a close for Evzen Holis in Sunday's singles quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. With four wins already under his belt, the Brno, Czech Republic native fell in two sets to Kentucky's Francois Musitelli, the preseason 105th-ranked player in the country.

In a tournament that began with 128 singles competitors, two of Holis' four victories came against "Power 5" competition behind triumphs over Indiana's Carson Hankins and Kentucky's Alexandre LeBlanc in the first two rounds. The 6-foot-2 Golden Eagle sophomore was the last TTU solo player left standing.

Tech's next fall tournament is the ITA All-American championships in Tulsa, Okla.


Saturday 9/25 RECAP

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team secured two more victories in Saturday's third day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. Evzen Holis, the lone Golden Eagle remaining in singles play, picked up another win in the round of 32 to push the 6-foot-2 sophomore into Sunday's quarterfinal in one of the more prestigious tournaments in the fall.

The duo of Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente, Tech's last doubles squad left, mirrored Holis' successful showing with a win of their own in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinals to end their impressive run in Knoxville. The Golden Eagle pair took down Breenan and Dickson with an 8-4 nod in the quarters, before falling to Mercer and Lapadat in the semis.

Holis rallied from a 6-3 first-set loss in his round of 16 bout with Oscar Cutting out of Memphis, coming back to take the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-3. The Golden Eagle sophomore out of Brno, Czech Republic will face Kentucky's Fancois Musitelli, the preseason 105th-ranked player in the nation in Sunday's quarters. The semifinals are slated for Sunday as well.


Friday 9/24 RECAP

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Paced by a pair of Evzen Holis singles wins, the Tennessee Tech tennis team put together another strong showing in the second day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. Three different Golden Eagles combined for four singles nods, while the Tech tandem of Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente registered a doubles victory to advance to Saturday's round of 16.

With Holis' two singles triumphs, the Brno, Czech Republic product advanced to Saturday's round of 16, serving as the last Golden Eagle remaining in singles action. Holis opened the day with his second victory over a "Power 5" opponent in the tournament thanks to a 6-3, 6-0 nod over Kentucky's Alexandre LeBlanc to move to the round of 32.

The Golden Eagle sophomore doubled down with a second-straight victory on the day, topping Belmont's Diego Castro in a clash that saw Holis take the first set 7-6 (5), before Castro retired with the second set situated at 1-1. Holis will square off with Oscar Cutting out of Memphis in Saturday's round of 16.

Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente were also victorious in the singles round of 64, but each Golden Eagle was upended in the round of 32 to end their showing in the main draw. Tosetto claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Indiana's Jagger Saylor, before falling 6-3, 6-4 to Kentucky's Gabriel Diallo, the preseason 13th-ranked player in the nation.

Vicente picked up a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 triumph over Marco Pennelli in the round of 32, but the Valencia, Spain native's run ended with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 loss to Vanderbilt's Jeremie Casabon the preseason 83rd-ranked player in the country. Andre Rodeia's stay in the main draw concluded with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Tennessee's Connor Gannon in the round of 64.

As far as doubles play is concerned, Tosetto and Vicente secured an 8-6 win over Andre and Tiraspolsky to move to Saturday's round of 16 where the TTU duo will face off with Brennan and Dickson. Rodeia and Holis fell in the round of 32 with an 8-4 loss to de Negri and Herran.


Thursday 9/23 RECAP

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – It was a banner opening day for the Tennessee Tech tennis team in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals, as the Golden Eagles soared to the tune of an unblemished first-round showing in one of the more prestigious events of the fall.

Tech made it a perfect 4-for-4 in the singles department, with Evzen Holis, Andre Rodeia, Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente all collecting opening-round wins to help highlight TTU's strong first-day showing. The Golden Eagles continued their impressive Thursday with a 2-0 doubles performance, as the tandems of Holis and Rodeia, and Vicente and Tosetto each secured first-round victories.

Holis rolled to a straight-set, 6-3, 6-3 singles win over Indiana's Carson Haskins, setting up a round of 64 clash with another "Power 5" opponent in the form of Kentucky's Alexandre LeBlanc on Friday. The Tech sophomore was one of two Golden Eagles to pick up a straight-set nod after Rafael Tosetto glided past Northern Kentucky's Santiago Casamayor with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The 5-foot-8 TTU junior out of Jacarei, Brazil will lock up with Indiana's Jagger Saylor in Friday's second round.  

Two Golden Eagles gutted out three-set triumphs, both showing their fair share of resiliency after dropping the first set. Andre Rodeia rallied to pick up a 2-6, 7-6 (10), 7-6 (5) win over Sam Edgar, while Carlos Vicente fought back to claim a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Harry Rock. Rodeia will see Tennessee's Conor Gannon in Friday's round of 64 and Vicente will greet Marco Pennelli in his second-round bout.

As far as doubles play is concerned, the Tech tandem of Vicente and Tosetto squeezed out an 8-7 (5) nod over Wojtalk and Orlando in the first round, while Holis and Rodeia powered post Huete and Miralles behind an 8-3 triumph to advance to Friday's round of 32.
